Your Questions Answered
I opened a business in Downtown Sidney, how do I become a BIA member?
How is the BIA funded?
Commercial properties located within a BIA pay a business improvement area tax to fund BIA initiatives and operations. The local government collects the funds annually on behalf of the BIA and distributes instalments to the BIA.
If I’m outside of the downtown, what business services are available to me?
As a licensed Town of Sidney Business, you are eligible to receive the support of initiatives distributed under the Business Development program. For more information, contact natalie@sidneybia.ca
What’s the difference between a Voting Member and an Associate Member?
A voting member is a Downtown Sidney business, whereas an Associate Member is a business outside of the downtown core who has been approved by the Sidney BIA Board of Directors to receive access to BIA programming. Associate members pay annually into the BIA separately.
I have a business in North Saanich, can I join the BIA?
Tentatively. You can apply for an Associate Membership which will be reviewed by the Sidney BIA Board of Directors for potential approval.
