Festive Displays | November 27 – Mid-January
Light Up Downtown Sidney
Sidney will be transformed into a twinkling wonderland as it welcomes the community to celebrate the holiday season with festive displays all throughout the town! The Sidney BIA has organized a professional contractor to install Christmas lights on business storefronts in downtown Sidney, in addition to a dazzling display of holiday-themed features around town by local merchants, the Town staff, and Sidney BIA.
Winter Wonderland Alley in Garden Court | November 29 – Mid-January
Carrying on the holiday magic from Candy Cane Lane, Garden Court will transform into a Winter Wonderland that guests can walk through and feel transported to a snowy oasis. Snowflakes will hang beneath a ceiling of white orbs, giving the guests the feeling of walking through the snow.
Lighted Window Tour
More than 50 businesses throughout downtown Sidney have dressed up their windows and storefronts with holiday decorations. So grab a loved one, pick up some hot cocoa, and wander through the streets of Sidney to soak in all of the festive displays that downtown Sidney has to offer!
Community Christmas Tree | November 27 – December 31
Calling all artists and creatives! This holiday season, we have partnered with McTavish Academy Of Art and ArtSea Community Arts Council to bring you Sidney’s Community Christmas Tree! Help us decorate the tree by picking up locally made Christmas ornaments from the Mary Winspear Centre (2243 Beacon Ave) and then by adding them to the Community Christmas Tree located between Sabhai Thai and Barbara’s Boutique (2493 Beacon Ave). Ornaments are free of charge! A big thank you to our sponsor, the Kiwanis Club of Sidney and Saanich Peninsula.
Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt | November 27 – January 7
Families are invited to explore downtown and find where these little scout elves have landed for a fun-filled, holiday scavenger hunt! Walkthrough the sidewalks of downtown Sidney to spot elves in over 50 businesses. Share your scavenger hunt photos using #ElvesByTheSea, and tag @ExploreSidney to win weekly gift card drawings. Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides | November 27 – December 19
Victoria Carriage Tours will offer festive rides through downtown Sidney on Saturdays and Sundays, November 27 to December 19, 12 PM – 4 PM. Tours are $50.00 per carriage and seat up to 6-people. Click here to purchase your tickets!
The Festive Brass | November 27 – December 18
The Festive Brass ensemble—also favourites at The Butchart Gardens during the holidays—will serenade shoppers every Saturday, from November 27 to December 18, 11 AM – 1 PM outside of Buddies Toys (2494 Beacon Avenue).

Other Community Events
Sidney’s Outdoor Christmas Market
Sidney’s first annual Outdoor Christmas Market will be taking place on Sunday, November 14, 10 AM to 4 PM at the Mary Winspear Centre (2243 Beacon Avenue). In the old-fashioned tradition of outdoor markets, the Sidney Christmas Market will be open come rain or shine. This is an opportunity to shop local and find unique Christmas gifts created by Island entrepreneurs, artisans and producers.
Festival of Trees
The Winspear Festival of Trees will be open to the public daily from November 30 to January 2. Visit the Mary Winspear Centre (2243 Beacon Avenue) to cast a vote for your favourite tree. With beautiful and unique Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and community groups, it will be hard to choose just one!
Give Back to the Community
The Backpack Project
The Backpack Project is a local initiative that provides necessities and comfort items to community members who are experiencing homelessness. The backpacks will be shared at regional women’s and community shelters on Christmas Day. Stop by Town Hall (2440 Sidney Avenue) before December 17 to donate new or very gently used sleeping bags, blankets, hoodies, and winter outwear. Toiletry items, gift cards, and ready-to-eat non-perishable food items are also appreciated.
Saanich Peninsula Holiday Toy Drive
The Peninsula Santa’s Helpers annual holiday toy drive is set to provide gifts to hundreds of families on the Saanich Peninsula again this Christmas. They will be collecting monetary donations from November 15 to December 15. New this year, tax receipts for donations over $50. Donations can be made online at marywinspear.ca or by calling 250-656-0275.
