A discussion with Brian Liversedge, CPA
Why did you choose Sidney as a place of work?
“Our office has been in Sidney for about thirty years now and I joined in as a new partner. I chose Sidney as a place to work for many reasons including the availability of jobs at the time. Eventually, I made it my home which ended up being a great decision.”
How would you describe your experience in the Sidney community?
“Really good. As I said, I do live out here and I have enjoyed watching the town adapt and grow over the years. I’m very excited about many of the new businesses that have opened this year or are opening in the coming months. There are also a number of wonderful local events that give this town a community feel, some of which I’m involved with on the board for the Peninsula Celebrations Society.”
What has been the most rewarding part of your work?
“I really enjoy working directly with clients and helping them stay on top of their taxes and accounting, especially when I’m able to take some stress off their shoulders and allow them to focus on running their business. Coming up with client-focused solutions is what I enjoy doing most.”
If you could give one piece of advice to a new entrepreneur what would it be?
“Don’t try to do it all yourself. Surrounding yourself with like-minded business people and networking is really important. I was able to join an established firm with two very experienced partners and a solid staff of 8+ individuals. That made my transition pretty smooth, but I could imagine it would be quite daunting to endure that process by yourself so make sure to get out there and ask for help.”
What are the core values of your business?
“Demonstrating respect, compassion and honesty with clients and colleagues. Ensuring our work is conducted ethically and honestly with integrity. Maintaining confidentiality. Creating a work culture with a commitment to learning, a work-life balance and fun. Contributing to the community on a regular basis.”
What are your short term and long term goals as a business owner?
“Short term, I am focused on growing my side of the practice and gaining new clients while still providing high-quality work. In the long term, I would like to continue developing my reputation around Sidney and the Peninsula as a trusted professional. I would also like to continue being involved with and contributing to the community in meaningful ways.”
